IELTS 5 to 6

Agree/Disagree: IELTS Task 2 Writing Band 6 Success: Fully Explained

Your friend shouts!

It’s a good idea to jump off this bridge!

Are you going to do it?

Probably not right?

So you ‘disagree’. Good, you are safe!

However, you need to explain to your friends why you aren’t going to jump!

You can say “I’m not crazy!” or “The water is too shallow” (not deep)

but your friends will try to make you jump anyway right?

If you can convince them, (make them believe your idea) then they won’t bother you.

If you can’t, they will keep bothering you.

An agree/disagree essay is exactly the same.

The difference is that you write in a structure that others can follow.

It looks like this.

Structure

Introduction

Body 1

Body 2

Conclusion

Body 1 is one reason why you don’t want to jump.

Body 2 is another reason why you don’t want to jump.

Simple right!

You’ll learn more in the following pages about how to choose your reasons and explain them in academic language, and you’ll learn to convince people you are right!

That’s power!
