IELTS 5 to 6

How to be calm during the exam?

Firstly, if you have done our course, and you are still coming here, shoot me an email because that shouldn’t be the case!

Now, you are nervous because you want to do well.

You are nervous because you want to be successful.

Well, do you think a successful student looks nervous?

What do you think if your date is nervous? Well, you might think they are cute but most likely you’ll think that they don’t have confidence and aren’t very good.

That is NOT the impression we want to give…. So,,, relax.

It’ll be OK! And if not, well so what? It’s money and time to go do it again, yes, a pain, but it’s nothing to do with your value or worth as a person. You’ll still get where you are going, you just hit a bump along the road. Keep going!

Ok? So relax.

When you relax, you save your energy, and you need your energy for the exam to DO WELL, right? Ok, so, ,,, relax.

If you didn’t do our speaking course, I’ll give you a top tip right here.

When you are asked a question, don’t use silly things like ‘that’s a good question’ because that’s a clear formula. Just start saying things you know about the topic.

For example: “Should busses run more frequently in rural areas”. Well what the heck do we know about busses and rural areas?! Not much, never mind deciding right there if we should have more…..

So start with what you DO know….

People in rural areas are farmers and old people. They might not have access to a car. The bus might be their only form of transportation. They might live in a cold area. Maybe there should be extra busses on Saturday and Sunday so that they can do their shopping. BOOM. Perfect answer.

So, nevermind techniques about breathing or whatever, the thing to solve is the CORE ISSUE: can you answer the questions!? Sure, there’s one big tip. There are loads more in the course.

What is anxiety/nervousness? You feel you can’t do it. Well, together, we can make SURE that you CAN!

  1. I do like, 4–4–4 Breathing (Box Breathing)
  2. CBT: cognitive behavioural therapy. Talk calmly to yourself. Go through the things you know and try to solve any you don’t.
  3. Replace “IELTS decides my life” with:
“IELTS is a bridge. I’m crossing it today. I’ve already started my journey.”
  4. Book your exam when you are READY!
  5. Not sure?
  6. Book a session with us and talk it through.
